A really charming story. The period detail is amazing, and the quantity of research that must be behind this book kind of stuns me. I love that the hero of our story is both flawed and admirable. There are enough unanswered questions that I'd consider trying to find the sequel.

Would have liked an author's note - I figure he tried to cover that sort of stuff in his epilogue, but I'd have enjoyed some comment that hadn't been translated through the mouth of his character about his research, motivation to write the book, or whatever.
